About Dr. Kim Peirano
DACM, Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM), LAc, CHt
Dr. Kim Peirano, DACM, LAc, CHT completed her clinical training and internship at the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College (AIMC) in Berkeley, where she later joined the faculty. She received her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health Sciences in 2018, with advanced training in integrative clinical reasoning, research methodology, and complex case management.

Dr. Kim is also a certified Integrative Medical Hypnotherapist and a Certified Jungian Life Coach. Both modalities are integrated into clinical care where appropriate, particularly in presentations involving chronic pain, stress, anxiety, trauma history, and the psychological dimensions of long-term illness. Medical hypnotherapy is offered as a standalone service or in combination with acupuncture.

She has been in continuous full-time clinical practice since licensure in 2010 — a tenure that is uncommon in a profession where most practitioners leave within the first five years. That longevity reflects a practice built on clinical outcomes rather than volume, with a patient base that includes direct referrals from physicians, physical therapists, neurologists, ENT specialists, and oral surgeons across the East Bay.

Her academic background includes a Master of Science in Organizational Psychology, which strengthens her clinical approach to behavior change, communication, and the psychological dimensions of chronic illness and pain.

Dr. Kim's clinical focus is deliberately concentrated. Her expertise spans sports medicine and orthopedic acupuncture, dry needling, pain management, stress and emotional health, pediatric acutherapy, and head and neck conditions — specifically TMJ dysfunction, Bell's palsy and facial nerve rehabilitation, headaches and migraines, tinnitus, and ear pain.

Her early specialization in cosmetic acupuncture required developing high-level anatomical knowledge of facial musculature, cranial nerve branches, and periauricular vascular structures, a foundation that directly informs her treatment of the head, face, and jaw. This anatomical depth is what makes her approach to TMJ, Bell's palsy, and facial pain unusually effective and safe, and why she regularly receives referrals for patients who have not responded to other treatments.

She is a continuing education instructor for licensed acupuncturists through multiple professional organizations, teaching facial anatomy, ENT acupuncture, and clinical reasoning for complex head and neck presentations. Other practitioners refer cases to her and seek clinical consultation on difficult head, face, and jaw presentations.
Critical evaluation of wellness claims.
A component of Dr. Kim's practice involves helping patients navigate the healthcare and wellness landscape critically, conventional and integrative alike. This includes evaluating evidence for proposed treatments, understanding the limits of clinical claims, and recognizing when practitioners are operating outside appropriate standards of informed consent or evidence-based practice.
Some health coaching clients engage Dr. Kim specifically for this work: developing the tools to evaluate healthcare recommendations independently, understand research limitations, and make informed decisions about their care without relying on practitioner authority alone.

"Helping my patients face the unknown, their fears and vulnerabilities and transform as a result of their courage is one of my favorite aspects of my work."
